Oregon won the first two games before losing on Saturday and Sunday to end with a series split against the Redhawks (4-3). How It Happened: Oregon (2-2) got off to a quick start giving starter Cullen Kafka an early lead. Senior Gabe Matthews picked up his first RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly driving in Smith to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.   Kenyon did not play due to COVID protocol Game Recap: Baseball | 02/27/21 | Rob Moseley Bats Quiet In Loss To Seattle The Oregon baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Seattle, 4-2. EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon baseball team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season Saturday, falling behind early and rallying to tie the game before ultimately losing to Seattle in PK Park, 4-2. The Ducks (2-1) scored in each of the first two innings to tie the game, after falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first. But Seattle reclaimed the lead in the fourth and Oregon squandered a couple of late chances to rally back. "We didn't hit very well today," UO coach Mark Wasikowski said. "Lotta fly balls — lotta lazy fly balls. Probably only five or six balls hit hard all day. … I didn't think we did a very good job of staying short to the ball today." How It Happened: The Redhawks (3-3) opened the game with a walk and an RBI double off UO starte

Kenyon did not play due to COVID  protocol ol Dominant Outing By Fuller Leads Ducks To Win EUGENE – Oregon exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third inning and Ducks' pitchers Peyton Fuller and Rio Britton combined for a five-hit shutout in a 6-0 non-conference win over Seattle at PK Park on Friday night. Fuller (1-0) dominated most of the game, allowing just five hits in a career-high 7.0 inning pitched. Britton, a true freshman, relieved Fuller in the eighth inning and retired six of the seven batters he faced in his career debut. How It Happened: It did not look like Fuller would cruise through the Redhawks (2-3) lineup after he struggled with his control in the first inning. The Ducks' right-hander gave up a leadoff single before walking the next two hitters to start the game. Fortunately, for the Ducks, Fuller picked off the leadoff batter at first before the two walks and then enticed an inning-ending double play with runners on first and second. When he ca

Eugene, Ore. – The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) presented by SR Bats named Gabe Matthews , Kenyon Yovan and Aaron Zavala to its preseason watch list today.   Yovan, a redshirt junior, is coming off a season where he earned Collegiate Baseball first-team All-America honors as a designated hitter after leading Oregon in hitting (.429), hits (24), home runs (4), runs scored (22) and walks (15). He also topped the team in on-base percentage (.556) and slugging percentage (.714), while finishing with nine RBI, two doubles and a triple.                                                   With the season starting in less than two weeks, Oregon comes into 2021 with a full roster of upperclassman and lots of promise from the incoming freshman. The NCAA ruled the 2020 spring sports season would not count towards athletes eligibility and the Ducks seniors took full advantage. Oregon returned all three of their seniors from 2020, while all draft-eligible juniors decided to come back as well. Each returning player will play a pivotal role in the 2021 season, and with games under two weeks away, here’s a look at how the Ducks roster will breakdown by position groups. PITCHING ROTATION: Depth Chart: Robert Ahlstrom, Cullen Kafka, Brett Walker, Peyton Fuller, Isaac Ayon, Rio Britton Notes: Ayon and Britton are two incoming freshmen who earned high-praise during Coach Mark Wasikowski’s January press conference. Whether the two see time as starters have yet to be seen, they’re included due to their high upside potential and need

Baseball America: 2021 Pac-12 Conference Preview (article)

Image
By Joe Healy on February 4, 2021 Baseball America 2021 Pac-12 Conference Preview February, 4, 2021 Going into last season, the Pac-12 had a clear favorite in Arizona State, a couple of other teams ranked in the Top 25 and then a lot of question marks beyond that. That analysis turned out to have underrated UCLA, but it is a similar story entering 2021, with the Bruins now playing the role of favorite. There are once again a couple of other teams ranked in the preseason, and once again, there are a lot of questions about the rest of the league and how it will shake out. Arizona could assert itself as a title challenger. The Wildcats have been accumulating talent at an impressive rate the last couple of years. Arizona State, which lost a ton of production on offense, but returns a talented pitching staff mostly intact, could also play that role. Or maybe Washington, a steady contender in the conference that seems to get the most out of its team more often than not, makes a jump. Predict
