OREGONIAN: Oregon baseball takes rubber game with Arizona State to take opening series of Pac-12 play

Oregon used some small ball to win its opening series of Pac-12 play.

Tanner Smith, Aaron Zavala and Robby Ashford each had two hits in a 5-3 win for the No. 19 Ducks over Arizona State Sunday afternoon at PK Park.

Arizona State (12-5, 1-2 Pac-12) struck first via an error and RBI single by Ethan Long.

Kenyon Yovan hit an RBI double to get a run back in the bottom of the first and a passed ball allowed Gavin Grant to score and tie it in the third.

Oregon (10-4, 2-1 Pac-12) loaded the bases in the fifth and sixth and scored a pair of runs via ground outs.

Grant hit into a double play that allowed Ashford to score in the fifth and Sam Novitske reached on a fielder’s choice groundout that scored Yovan to make it 4-2 after six.

Justin Fall allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits, a walk and hit batter ans truck out two over five innings for the Sun Devils.

Long hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth to get ASU within one and Grant got it back in the bottom of the inning with a sac fly of his own.

Brett Walker (2-1) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks and struck out two over five innings for UO. Nico Tellache allowed a run on two hits and struck out two over three innings and Kolby Somers picked up his third save of the season.
