OREGONIAN: Oregon baseball moves into top 20 of polls after winning opening Pac-12 series

Oregon baseball moved up in all the major polls following its series win over Arizona State to open Pac-12 play.

The Ducks (10-4, 2-1 Pac-12) are No. 13 in Baseball America and Perfect Game, No. 15 in Collegiate Baseball and the USA Today coaches poll, No. 16 in d1baseball.com polls after beating the Sun Devils twice in three games last weekend. That’s up from Nos. 16, 17, 19, 19 and 20, respectively.

Oregon travels to Arizona (13-6, 1-2 Pac-12) starting Friday (6 p.m.) in Tucson.

Oregon used some small ball to win its opening series of Pac-12 play. Tanner Smith, Aaron Zavala and Robby Ashford each had two hits in a 5-3 win for the No. 19 Ducks over Arizona State Sunday afternoon at PK Park. Arizona State (12-5, 1-2 Pac-12) struck first via an error and RBI single by Ethan Long. Kenyon Yovan hit an RBI double to get a run back in the bottom of the first and a passed ball allowed Gavin Grant to score and tie it in the third. Oregon (10-4, 2-1 Pac-12) loaded the bases in the fifth and sixth and scored a pair of runs via ground outs. Grant hit into a double play that allowed Ashford to score in the fifth and Sam Novitske reached on a fielder’s choice groundout that scored Yovan to make it 4-2 after six. Justin Fall allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits, a walk and hit batter ans truck out two over five innings for the Sun Devils.
